Sustaining Teaching for Mastery

Developing Mathematical Thinking Across the Department 

This Work Group offers teachers and their departments nationally coordinated support to address the reasoning and problem-solving challenges of the maths curriculum and its assessment at GCSE.

Dates and Venue:

This Work Group will consist of 3 face-to-face sessions running from 9.30am to 3pm on the following dates:

  • Friday 21st November 2025
  • Tuesday 17th March 2026
  • Thursday 21st May 2026

All sessions will be taking place at the HISP Learning Partnership Hub, Tanners Brook Primary School, Elmes Drive, Millbrook, Southampton, SO15 4PF.

Developing Coherence Across Maths and Science

This popular Work Group is led through a partnership between Maths Hubs and a Science Learning Partner. Participants will collaboratively analyse and develop curriculum coherence between maths and science, to ensure that students are able to flexibly apply their knowledge and skills across both subjects in Key Stages 3 and 4.

Developing Collaborative Planning and Lesson Study within Maths Departments - New for 2025/26!

This Work Group deconstructs and analyses different curriculum area and explores effective approaches to lesson planning and sequences of learning to achieve a more coherent Teaching for Mastery learning journey throughout the secondary years.

Dates and Venue:

This Work Group will consist of 4 face-to-face workshops to take place on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 12th November 2025 (9.30am to 3pm)
  • Monday 12th January 2026 (1pm to 3.30pm - Venue Tbc)
  • Wednesday 4th March 2026 (9.30am to 3pm)
  • Tuesday 16th June 2026 (1pm to 3p.30pm)

The November, March and June sessions will be taking place at the HISP Learning Partnership Hub, Tanners Brook Primary School, Elmes Drive, Millbrook, Southampton, SO15 4PF.

Secondary Subject Leaders Community

This community is designed for existing secondary subject leaders to support the implementation of Teaching for Mastery across entire departments more effectively. Much of the work will support the subject leader to develop and implement their vision and Teaching for Mastery principles relevant to their context whilst drawing on the shared expertise of their local and national communities.
