The Solent Maths Hub aims to provide all schools across the region with the opportunity to implement and engage with a Teaching for Mastery approach within their school. We are focussed on the use of research, building learning organisations and creating a passion for mathematics in teachers and children.

The Solent Maths Hub is one of 40 Maths Hubs in England, working together within the Maths Hubs Programme, which began in 2014. Maths Hubs harness al maths leadership and expertise within an area to develop and spread excellent practice.

We would like to work with all the schools in our region and would be delighted if you would like to become involved.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED WITH SOLENT MATHS HUB?

FREE Professional Development

Solent Maths Hub offers three main types of Professional Development programme available to support maths teachers at different stages of their career:

  1. Leadership Development Programmes

  2. Teaching for Mastery Work Groups

  3. Other Projects

These programmes are FREE and have funding models to support teacher release time.

Leadership Development Programmes

Solent Maths Hub programmes are led by a large Local Leader in Mathematics Education (LLME) community who are trained centrally by the NCETM and through the Hub. Each year in the summer term we look to recruit future Primary and Secondary Mastery Specialists and Work Group Leads to engage in leadership development programmes so that they develop the knowledge, skills and expertise to lead professional development programmes for the hub. This is a great career progression pathway for experienced maths teachers / leads who want to continually reflect on their own teaching practice, as well as to support teachers in schools other than their own.

Teaching for Mastery (TfM) Work Groups

The primary and secondary Work Groups support schools in developing their approach to teaching for mastery. A key aim of these Work Groups is to develop strong curriculum, teaching and professional development practices in schools. Schools that apply for the TfM programme are offered several years of ongoing, bespoke support from developing to sustaining a mastery approach.

Other Projects

Solent Maths Hub run a range of further projects through Work Groups to develop mathematical knowledge and pedagogy in all educational phases. These include Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Maths (SKTM) Work Groups, projects which focus in KS2-3 transition, secondary subject leadership Work Groups and A-level pedagogy Work Groups.
