This Work Group offers teachers and their departments nationally coordinated support to address the reasoning and problem-solving challenges of the maths curriculum and its assessment at GCSE.
This popular Work Group is led through a partnership between Maths Hubs and a Science Learning Partner. Participants will collaboratively analyse and develop curriculum coherence between maths and science, to ensure that students are able to flexibly apply their knowledge and skills across both subjects in Key Stages 3 and 4.
This Work Group focuses on the 5 Big Ideas of Teaching for Mastery and deconstructs each one in turn, exploring effective approaches to teaching and sequences of learning to achieve a more coherent Teaching for Mastery learning journey throughout the secondary years. This would be an excellent Work Group for any school that has previously been involved in the Teaching for Mastery pathway, even if this was a long time ago or to spread expertise and experience across a department.
This community is designed for existing secondary subject leaders to support the implementation of Teaching for Mastery across entire departments more effectively. Much of the work will support the subject leader to develop and implement their vision and Teaching for Mastery principles relevant to their context whilst drawing on the shared expertise of their local and national communities.
