Riverside Community School (Special School)

What instigated your school's initial involvement with the Maths Hub?

Other schools recommended we work with the Hub and we wanted to ensure our school had a deeper, better, embedded understanding of early maths skills.

How valuable has it been having dedicated time, outside of school, to work on maths with other special school colleagues?

Visting other schols was very valuable and having opportunities to share ideas and approaches was really helpful.

What impact have you seen in school as a result of your engagement with the Maths Hub so far?

We used our new learing to design a successful inset day for all staff, introducting maths mastery and the five big ideas. From this there has been a very positive impact as all staff have gained a greater uinderstanding and awareness of different ways to approach key mathematical concepts.

We were able to see this impacts through maths bservations and through performance management.

We are now also clear on what we need to do next to move the school forward in its mastery journey.

What advice would you give a school leader who is on the fgence about getting involved in their local Maths Hub?

We would highly recommend connecting with the Maths Hub as it is a great central hub that allows networking across your area. Communication with a team of mastery specialists with SEND expertise is really positive and constructive, providing opportunities for us to think strategically about small, acheivable steps for our school.
