Maths Hub Lead
I started at University of Sussex training in Mathematics and then went on to complete a PGCE specialising in Mathematics at Exeter University.
I have been in education for over 10 years now and in that time, I have had the privilege of working in a variety of roles. I started at University of Sussex training in Mathematics and then went on to complete a PGCE specialising in Mathematics at Exeter University. After graduating, I work in Aldershot, Hedge End and Portsmouth, first as a class teacher progressing into senior leadership over this time. While working in Portsmouth, I had the opportunity to work with the Solent Maths Hub, running both Primary and Secondary Work Groups. I started as the Teaching for Mastery Lead, moving on to become Maths Hub Lead for Early Years and Primary and I am now the overall Maths Hub Lead. This role involves setting the strategic direction of the Maths Hub to provide continued research informed support to schools across the region. Alongside my role at the Maths Hub, I became heavily involved with school improvement, first as an SLE in Portsmouth, moving to supporting several SSIF bids across the region and working with senior leaders in a range of school to develop their curriculum. During this time, I also completed my MA in Education, researching children's conceptual understanding within mathematics and the link between mathematical thinking and perceived ability. I am now one of a team of school improvement leads working for the HISP MAT working across the MAT supporting school leaders with curriculum reviews and providing specific senior leadership support in one of our Primary schools.

I am the Primary Teaching for Mastery Lead for the Solent Maths Hub. I started my career working in a five-form entry junior school in Southampton where I was the Maths Lead for four years before becoming the deputy headteacher and Maths Lead of a one-form entry primary from 2014-2020.
In 2015 I became a Primary Maths Specialist for the Solent Maths Hub and I worked in this role for three years. I loved working alongside other teachers to develop a Teaching for Mastery approach and learn a huge amount from everyone i worked with, I became the Primary Teaching for Mastery Lead in 2018 and work alongside Mastery Specialists to support teachers and leader in their Mastery journeys.
Assistant Maths Hub Lead (Primary)
I’ve worked for the Solent Maths Hub as a Primary Mastery Specialist since 2019 and am thrilled to now be part of the Hub Team as the Primary Assistant Lead. My involvement with the Solent Hub has given me a deep mathematical subject knowledge, developed my understanding of being a leader and provided opportunity to meet and work with inspiring teachers and leaders across the Solent. Since taking part in a Teaching for Mastery workgroup I have been passionate about the work-group model of professional development and the huge difference this can make on pedagogy, classroom practice and ultimately the outcomes for children. The fundamental belief that all children can achieve in maths is central to the mastery approach and the driving force behind all that we do.
Assistant Maths Hub Lead (Secondary)
Despite not having a background in mathematics, I discovered a passion for teaching maths after completing my PGCE and Masters in Education at the University of Southampton.
I began my career working in the New Forest before taking on a leadership role across two schools in Southampton for the cause of school improvement. I now work as a Director of Teaching and Learning at St Mark's Church of England Primary School in Southampton and continue to support schools across the region. I trained as Mastery Specialist in 2016 and have been working with the Solent Maths Hub ever since.
Secondary Mastery Specialist Lead
I studied Mathematics at Le Saint Union in Southampton qualifying with a degree in Mathematics with QTS status in 1999. I began my career teaching Primary at Shirley Junior School and then St Luke's CofE in Sway. I held several different roles within these schools, Maths coordinator, LSA manager and leader of Key Stage 2.
During my years as a primary teacher I was a Lead Maths Teacher for Southampton. I also worked closely with Southampton University, teaching part of the PGCE primary maths course and studying my Masters. I then moved to teach Secondary maths at Romsey school where I still teach. I have been working with the Solent Maths Hub since 2016, I have run the Mathematical Thinking Work Group and I am now Secondary Mastery Lead.
Level 3 Lead
Maths Hub Co-Ordinator
I have worked in various support education roles over the last 25 years including School Business Manager and Teaching School Director. My strengths lie with people and in project management and by working across the maths hub I can utilise these skills to ensure the appropriate level of support is given to schools, our team, Work Groups and Teaching for Mastery leads.
I joined the Solent Maths Hub in September 2021 so am still relatively new to the role, loving it and learning more every day. If you want to know more about how the hub can support you and your school, please contact me, I’d love to hear from you!
