Core Maths Teacher Network
These Work Groups give teachers opportunities, through collaboration and experimentation, to develop improved teaching approaches that support the open-ended problem-solving skills Core Maths students need to develop, and to share these with departmental colleagues. Participant departments will support the role of Core Maths in promoting contextualised problem-solving and links to teaching in other subject areas. The Maths Hub and Advanced Maths Support Programme (AMSP) work collaboratively to deliver projects in this area.
Feedback from participants:
“Interesting discussion on how teaching CM is different from A Level teaching:
-
More flexible SOW - not as pressured
-
Adapt teaching to current news stories, topics of interest etc
-
Students need more general knowledge
-
More links to other subjects eg data, finance etc
-
Different approach - more focus on context which suits some more than others
-
We know the students will use the skills and knowledge later in life - great!”
“It has been so useful hearing other teacher's ideas and made me teach more creatively. It also made me confident that I had covered everything.”
“Discussing teaching strategies was very helpful and sharing resources as well. It gave me many ideas that I can try in class or online.”
This Work Group is now closed. Recruitment for 22/23 will start after half term.
